The aim of REACH is to ensure a high level of safety for humans and the environment in the production and use of chemicals. REACH will make more information available on substances used. As a result, communication about these substances will be improved in the chain from producer to end user and vice versa.

Manufacturers, distributors and importers have an obligation to register substances with a comprehensive set of data on safety for humans and the environment. There are different deadlines and different requirements for the depth of the data. This depends, among other things, on the volume and harmful properties of the substance. Information about the substances and how to manage risks must be passed on between companies in the chain. In preparation for registration, users of substances (including those contained in adhesives, sealants, coatings, soldering fluids, lubricants, etc.) must provide information about their use to their suppliers. A ban is introduced for the chemicals of the highest concern, with the EU being able to grant authorisation for production and use under strict conditions.

The REACH legislation came into force on 1 July 2007. Before 1 December 2008, all substances had to be notified to the REACH registration office in Finland. As of 1 December 2010, the risks of the most dangerous substances were known. By 1 June 2018, REACH had to be implemented for all substances.

In the future, you will receive products for which all health and environmental risks for your application are more clearly documented. Because many applications are the same, our industry will draw up a number of so-called "generic exposure scenarios" and pass them on to the raw material suppliers. As soon as these have been drawn up, we will ask whether such a scenario also applies to you. Griffon will ask its raw material suppliers to register the substances used and, if necessary, to test them for the way in which our products are used in your premises. The end result of the overall process will be better protection of the environment and a healthier working and living environment.

Yes! Due to the high research costs and/or the high risks, there is a chance that substances will be withdrawn from the market. This could have an impact on the availability of our products.

Griffon has started making a risk analysis. Based on the science we have now, we look at:
· The hazard class of the substance.
· The uniqueness of the substance for our products.
· The chance that it may not be registered or withdrawn from the market.

We will use this analysis to offer you an alternative in time.
